who can you run to?

As I pose the question "What are you trying to get from others that only God can give", I have to pause for a moment reflecting back on times in my own life when I gave power or put pressure on the back of others to fulfill something in me, that only God could give.  

I know first hand what it's like to seek love, acceptance, support, affirmation and guidance from others, only to be let down or left high and dry.  I know about the disappointment and frustration aimed at those who were silent or absent in my time of need. I can totally relate to the disgust and anger when promises made by people have gone unfulfilled and left me further behind because I placed all my hope and trust in them to help pull me through.

Guess what I also know?  I know that I'm not the only one.  Many people struggle with this very thing.  Whether it is seeking the acceptance and approval of others; or trying to gain the love and appreciation from those closest to us.  It may show up in waiting for someone to push us or "help" us accomplish our goal or to step out towards our dreams.  What ever the case may be, people will never ever be able to provide the very thing that only God can.

Now, don't get me wrong, people are wonderful and I have no doubt God has assigned people into each of our lives to walk with, to support, and to encourage.  However, when we place the burden of our personal needs on others, it's not fair nor is it practical.  With everything we face, every choice, every feeling, every challenge... we must  learn to take it to God.  There is nothing too large or small for Him to handle.  I have found, in some instances He may send a person in my pathway who is part of the answer to my prayer but not the sole answer. Whether they provide expertise, insight, a confirming word or support along the way they are simply part of the big picture.

​In other instances, God has activated something within me that I wasn't even aware was there, to help me through what ever challenge I faced.  Under all circumstances I have learned that people are fickle and flaky and although their hearts and intentions may be pure, my needs are not their responsibility to fulfill.  In learning that, I have provided freedom for those close to me and I have also allowed myself to experience things unimaginable that could have only been made possible by God.  I have learned more about myself and now I encourage others to do the same.  I have learned over the years that when I can't count on others or even count on myself, I can ALWAYS count on God.

PRICELESS PRAYER
Lord God, please forgive me for the times I placed unnecessary pressure on others.  Please help me focus my eyes and heart on you in my time of need.  Help me be reminded that everything I need you have already provided and you are the very one I can count on to never let me down.  Help me draw closer to you for the confidence, courage and guidance I need to make it through every situation I face.  Thank you that you are ever present and always here for me.  I thank you that you have plans for me and therefor you know the path.  Thank you that this year will be the BEST year yet as I place my hope and trust in you.
