What's Your Relationship with you?

o often we spend countless hours focusing and even fretting over our relationships with other people, asking ourselves countless questions about other people (i.e. do they like me, will they call me, what are they thinking, how can I impress them...)  

While it is important to regularly examine our relationships and put in the work to ensure they are healthy and strong...even more important is our relationship with ourselves.  How we feel about ourselves matters.  How we talk to and about ourselves is important. Believe it or not, the way we feel about ourselves, directly or indirectly impacts every other relationship we find ourselves in. 

Let me remind you...everywhere you go, there you are.  While you can decide when and how to engage others, the reality is you can never escape you.  When you rise, there you are.  When you steal away for quiet time, there you are.  When you find yourself in a myriad of emotions from day to day, there you are. The reality is you can never escape you.

So, in realizing that, it's more important than ever to regularly examine your relationship with you.  Start by asking yourself a few important questions:​

• Do you like yourself?
• Are you pleased with the person you are becoming? 
• What personal attributes do you admire about yourself? What areas could use a little improvement?
• Are the words you speak about yourself uplifting, affirming and encouraging, or are your words critical and unkind towards yourself.  
• If you were outside of yourself, would you choose to be around you?

The way you answer these questions can be telling.  However, taking the time to begin with a small activity like this can be the beginning of the rest of your life, being the best of your life.  If the answers you came up with aren't favorable to you, then start today, working on you.  Invest the time, energy and attention on becoming a better you.  Whether it is reading books, investing in a counselor or coach, getting an accountability partner, journaling or just taking a deep dive into yourself including rediscovering your unique gifts, talents and interests.

As you continue to do your work, it will directly and indirectly begin to impact how you show up in all the other areas of your life.  Working on yourself is never time wasted.ever time wasted.
